To Begin At The Beginning

“How do you eat an elephant? You start with its toes.” Proverb

Not all things may be as they seem, but everything is as it is and “getting between the wall and the wallpaper” as the saying goes, is a key business, leadership, and life skill.

Breaking the problem down and identifying which thinking strategies will yield the best results.

Studies show that novice negotiators often tend to put pressure on themselves to be successful and get to wherever they want to get quickly. This is a very left-brain dominated, “Are we there yet?” approach.

However, to be a successful negotiator is much simply than you may think, because in any negotiation you just have to ask yourself, what is the other person thinking? If you know that, you’ll get the deal done and what the other person is thinking can usually be boiled down to just five words, which are not — “Can I make this work” but “What’s in it for me?”
