“Pause you who read this and think for a moment of the long chain of iron or gold, thorns, or flowers, that would never have bound you, but for the formation of the first link on one memorable day.” Charles Dickens, ‘Great Expectations’.

In a simpler world, basic contingency planning could ensure resilience and get us through. However, we are no longer in that simpler world and today it’s unknown unknowns and Black Swan events that we are all having to contend with.

This piece is about emotions. How we respond. Where we get our energy from, and how we can see things anew with a fresh and vital gaze. Most importantly though it’s about how we can get down in the Mudd and understand and act with clarity and precision in a complex world. Yes, the one we are living in right now and will be tomorrow too. Where nuance is definitely less common, accepted truths few and far between, opinions increasingly polarized, and societal shocks abound!

So, First A Question

“Those who talk should do and only those who do should talk.” Nassim Nicholas Taleb

What will be the first link that may bind us today as we sprint into Summer? Will it be our capacity for awareness, compassion, and understanding complex emotions?
